We’ve listed the most common questions we get asked, along with the answers. If you still need some more help then please email us with any other questions.

1. What length skis do I need?
This does depend on your height, weight & ability. It also depends on the type of ski you are buying & the terrain you usually ski on. Please follow our 3 step guide.

Step 1 – Ability & Height – Get your tape measure out!

Beginner skiers - As a general rule, when the skis are standing next to you they should come up to somewhere around your mouth / nose.

Intermediate/Advanced skiers - When the skis are standing next to you they should come up to somewhere around your nose / middle of your forehead.

For Expert skiers - You will probably have a good idea of what length you prefer. When the skis are standing next to you they should come up to somewhere around the middle of your forehead.

Step 2 – Choose your ski

Decide on the ski you’d like to buy. All skis come in slightly different lengths, there is no standard format. Have a look at what sizes the ski comes in. Then choose the 2 nearest lengths to the measurement made in step 1.

Step 3 – Type of skiing & terrain

You should have narrowed it down to a choice of 2 different sizes. The details below will help you choose the correct size:

Weight / Build
If you are well built & heavy for your height, a slightly longer ski is best. Or if you’re slightly build & light for your height, a smaller ski is better.

Type of Skiing
A longer ski will be more stable at speed, but will be harder to turn. A shorter ski will turn quicker & easily but if too short may get a bit twitchy at speed.

If you ski fast & aggressively – A longer ski will be better.
If you ski slowly & cruise around the mountain – A shorter ski will be easier to turn.

Terrain
A longer ski will be much better in powder, a shorter ski will turn faster & quicker on the piste.

On Piste – Ski only on the groomed runs, maybe venture into the soft snow at the side of the runs occasionally. A shorter ski will be best.

All Mountain – Ski on piste, but also like to venture into the powder. A slightly longer ski will be better if you want more floatation in the powder.

Off Piste – Ski mainly off piste. A longer ski will be better.

Do you ever venture into the park & try some jumps? Do you ski fast, aggressively or slowly & in control? Be honest & supply as much information as possible & we’ll suggest a couple of options.

3. What length Snowboard do I need?
This does depend on your height, weight & ability. It also depends on the type of snowboard you are buying & the terrain you usually ride on. Please follow our guide.

Step 1 – Measure from the floor to your chin.

As a general rule, when the board is standing next to you it should come up to somewhere around your chin.

Step 2 – Freestyle, freeride or a bit of both?

Are you buying a Freestyle board for jibbing & riding in the park & pipe? Do you want a Freeride board for high speed piste riding & ripping up the powder? Or are you after a bit of both ( All Mountain)?

Freestyle – You’ll need a shorter board, you’ll notice these boards aren’t made in large sizes.
Freeride – You’ll need a longer board.
All Mountain – Stick with chin height.

Step 3 – Weight

It’s best to be honest here, let’s face it, lying about your weight won’t help you’re riding!

If you are well built & heavy for your height, a slightly longer board is best. Or if you’re slightly build & light for your height, a smaller board is better.

Step 4 – How big are your boots?

For all the big footed folk out there a wide board may be required. If you’re a UK size 11 or above then we’d recommend it. If the board is too narrow for you then your toe or heal may catch the snow during a turn, resulting in a rather spectacular face plant!
